It all started in a converted Chinese laundry on Chicago’s north side in 1959. No one could have known that by the next century, The Second City would have established itself as synonymous with improvisational humor. ABOUT I MUSICI DE MONTREAL:
Founded by cellist and conductor Yuli Turovsky, I Musici de Montréal is a chamber orchestra of 15 musicians that presents a vast repertoire extending from the baroque to the contemporary. The orchestra presents a busy schedule of over 100 concerts per season throughout the world including three prestigious series in Montreal. This extraordinary amount of activity places I Musici amongst the most important touring orchestras in Canada.

Special notes on the repertoire:
Pictures at an Exhibition is performed before a large-screen projection of a new film created by painter Natasha Turovsky. Awarded an Excellence in Cinema Award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (2007), she has recreated the lost paintings that inspired Mussorgsky’s work. Each one created to accompany the corresponding movements of the piece, the paintings have been digitized into melodic movement.

Now in its thirteenth season, the Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series draws first-time snowshoers, world-class snowshoe athletes, kids of all ages and everyone in between. Each event within the series includes the East-West 5K Quest, a competitive 10K and a Kids' 1K plus it features slope-slide sponsor expos and a post-event plaza party.

The series is presented by: The Beaver Creek Resort Company, Atlas Snow-Shoe Company and Continental Airlines and and is brought to you in part by The Dusty Boot, East West Resorts, Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate, Vail Daily and KZYR The Zephyr.

- A pre-registration series pass is available for $80 until January 9, 2010 and includes a complimentary custom participant gift.
- Per race pre-registration is available for $30 and closes at 5:00 p.m. the night prior to each event.
- Event day registration is also available for $35 and will take place in Beaver Creek starting at 9 a.m. prior to each race.
- The Kids' 1K for children 12 years-of-age and younger is free for any child accompanied by a parent.
- Childcare resources will not be offered this year due to lack of demand.

ABOUT "LA TRAVIATA":
The last of the three great operas of Giuseppe Verdi's middle period, “La Traviata” is now one of his most popular works. Written for the Teatro la Fenice in Venice, it was first heard on March 6, 1853. The libretto, by Francesco Maria Piave, details the ill-fated love affair between a young gentleman named Alfredo Germont and a terminally ill courtesan named Violetta. It is based on the novel “La dame aux Camélias” by Alexandre Dumas, published in 1848. The title "La Traviata" means literally The Woman Who Strayed, or perhaps more figuratively, The Fallen Woman.

Verdi's use of traditional forms in combination with a new dramatic conviction would lead to the more dramatic style of his later operas. This delicate blend of old and new styles is perhaps what has kept “La Traviata” ever fresh and appealing in modern opera houses.

ABOUT THE RUSSIAN NATIONAL ORCHESTRA:
The Russian National Orchestra (RNO) has been in demand throughout the music world ever since its 1990 Moscow premiere. Of the orchestra's 1996 debut at the BBC Proms in London, the Evening Standard wrote, "they played with such captivating beauty that the audience gave an involuntary sigh of pleasure." More recently, they were described as "a living symbol of the best in Russian art" (Miami Herald).

ABOUT YUJA WANG:
Twenty-two year old Chinese pianist Yuja Wang is widely recognized for playing that combines the spontaneity and fearless imagination of youth with the discipline and precision of a mature artist. Regularly lauded for her controlled, prodigious technique, Yuja’s command of the piano has been described as “astounding” and “superhuman,” and she has been praised for her authority over the most complex technical demands of the repertoire, the depth of her musical insight, as well as her fresh interpretations and graceful, charismatic stage presence. This past season The Washington Post called her Kennedy Center recital debut “jaw-dropping” and following her San Francisco recital debut The San Francisco Chronicle wrote “The arrival of Chinese-born pianist Yuja Wang on the musical scene is an exhilarating and unnerving development.
